Call For Papers:  6th ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL MIGRATION CONFERENCE 2026

Who we are

A research home for migration, ageing and climate change

The International Institute of Migration and Development is a centre for academic research devoted to all aspects of migration, ageing and climate change. We are India's largest interdisciplinary research network in this field.

IIMAD brings together demographers, economists, sociologists and policy scholars to advance new thinking on how migration, ageing and climate change - and the various intersections between them - shape families, economies and nations.

The institute collaborates with government and non-government organisations, national and international organisations — turning rigorous evidence into actionable insights for policy makers, accessible research data for researchers and fuel for social change.

We believe that migration is part of our life — shaping families, economies and nations, often without our knowledge.

The conviction that has guided IIMAD since its founding

01

Advance rigorous research

Produce interdisciplinary, evidence-based scholarship on every dimension of migration and development — from labour mobility to ageing, displacement and diaspora.

02

Inform humane policy

Translate robust data into policy that protects the rights, dignity and welfare of migrants and their families, in India and across the world.

03

Build the network

Connect scholars, institutions and practitioners into India's largest interdisciplinary research network on migration.

04

Engage communities

Work alongside government and non-government organisations serving refugees, diasporic migrants and migrant workers.

Our approach

How we work

Pillar 01

Evidence first

Longitudinal surveys, robust datasets and peer-reviewed analysis underpin everything we publish.

Pillar 02

Interdisciplinary

Demography, economics, sociology and policy converge on the shared questions migration raises.

Pillar 03

Globally connected

Partnerships across Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas extend the reach of our work.
